Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald section sewn book

Posted in: Case Study

Todays case study is a project for Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald.  The brief was to produce an 84 page Section Sewn Book with a difference, which was achieved through using a multitude of print and finishing techniques designed by Think Design Manchester. We were approached to produce a celebratory coffee table style book to commemorate the hard work put into the development, to showcase and praise the team involved in the completion of highway upgrades within Area 4, Kent.

The book was designed and printed using 5 colours on our Heidelberg 105 Litho Press, including a fluorescent yellow on silk paper. However, to give the project an added lift, we then created a 600mm dust jacket which was printed digitally on a transparent clear stock with digital varnish applied. The varnish was a subtle way of highlighting the road network upgraded during the Area 4 project which was then wrapped around the book giving it added protection whilst also showcasing the scale of work completed over the 13 year project.

Digitally Varnished Slip Case showing the extent of the works whilst also adding protection to the book.
